cropcircle research

Bournemouth Airport, july 2007.

The harvested Bournemouth formation. Picture: Randell

Some time before I drove off to England I was caught by a report of a formation around a tree at the airport of Bournemouth. The report was done at cropcircleconnector.com under section “uk rumours”. During my cropcirclevacation I kept an eye on this item becouse I expected more information about this circle would appear. This didn’t happen for a long time so than I decided to go there myself.

At my arrival that afternoon the 6th of august the crop to my dissapointment was already harvested. As far as I could see it must have happened recently but nevertheless a pity of course.

Crows escaping from the oak.
As I went towards the tree a lot of crows flew away and I discovered that there were clearly remains of the formation in exit. At first an obvious geometrical pattern I couldn’t recognize it but without doubt this was not a case of winddamage.

Mainly there were planes of upright brown stubbles and green planes made of fresh growing grass. These grassy ones showed remaines of lay.

The image still clearly visible.

After having taken pictures I decided to try to draw a survey. I was for about 15 minutes in this formation now but I began to feel shaky in my hole body. It suprised me while the other formations that I visited here in England didn’t cause such a strong effect plus this one was allready old and mown. Only the formations at Bosschenhoofd from the Netherlands had a compairable fysical effect on me. This for me could hardly be anything else than a formation from a supernatural source.

Remains of what must have been a formation in wheat.

While I was making the drawing there was a voice of thought in my mind that that gave me the term “binocular” as some sort of hint I suppose. Hmmm. I saw how a security guard was trying to climb over the entanglement. He failed but I understood I had to hurry up in order to finish my survey. By making big steps I took some rough sizes. More security man appeared. They were debating at the barrier. I kept on rechearching as if I didn’t notice them. I climbed in the old oak for more pictures and videoshots. When I came out the officers had slinked off. After all, who sets entanglement for somebody else will get tangled himself, isn’t it?

Drawing made under the influence of cropcircle radiation and the threath of security.

The moment came that having become desoriënted I couldn’t stay any longer in this formaton. I held this inspection for done and asked around at the airport if somebody could have taken pictures of this thing when it was intact. At the service bar I got send on to somebody named Gary Ellson of a helicopter department. With this person I would have the best chance if it hadn’t become 5 o’clock.

All right, the next day I found him and in return for my unusual question he told me that in fact he would have taken a picture of it if it hadn’t been so obvious that it was done by somebody to catch attention so near to the airport. His saying sure sounded reasonable, but was it also 100% waterproof it was a hoax? Not at all to my opinion. I started bluffing around about being a reachearcher that came from Holland to investigate this case and that sort of blabla. Somehow, he must have feld uncomfortable about the fact he hadn’t taken these shots I guess becouse at the moment of my leaving he called me back and said; “You have a moment? Maybe I can mean something for you after all…”

Although that moment became allmost a whole afternoon becouse of bad weather conditions, I was very pleased to jump into that RAVEN 44 to take off for a free flight above the object of reachearch! Hurrah! Aerial photographs in the end! Once again, many thanks to pilots Gary Ellson and Ollie Pennington for this valueable gesture.

To my dissapointment my efforts to lift this formation up out of the rumoursphere did not lead to much result. At least not for as far as the leading cropcircleconnector is concerned. Therefore I can’t resist to criticize in the direction of what I call the cropcirclecommunity.

1. As a relative novice it stroke me how easely 4 or 5 or even more earial photographers would handle just a single formation while pictures of other formations, mostly just outside the epicentre of where it all happens would be left without. What a shame! Ever since it is known that many of the formations seem to respond to the human mind, even on a more personal level, it seems to me the more for granted to serve the fenomena. My big request to all involved aerial photographers is therefore if you could organize your works in such a way that also the “outside” formations won’t get omitted. Please understand me well, I highly appreciate your efforts. Its only kind of painfull to see that interesting formations are left without a clear survey.

2. The same kind of thing counts for the rechearch on the ground of course. Now that I’ve been the only person that took a closer look at this formation, it has become possible for the editors of cropcircleconnector to interpretate this historical unicum as stormdamage (!!!) and leave it in the margin of rumour. Jeeh, that for such a site! With sure respect, I don’t understand it at all. So croppies, reachearchers, augurs and others, please visit also the formations at other districts and don’t forget to report your findings. Who knows what the circlemakers have in store for you…!

Back on Dutch homeground I took the opportunity to reconstruct the formation. At first with the help of the aerial pictures. I stretched them towards real circles. Next I tried to discover the original geometry. I had never done this before so it wasn’t an easy thing to do for me but I’m proud of the result. I can say that the patern is surely based on the flower of life (in which the Kabbala-tree…) but progressing the drawing I had to use complicated and difficult to understand steps. I wonder if it has to do with the stretching or not.

Now that the endresult is intriguing my brain I mainly see the story of the tree in it. The slow but steady growth that is only possible by flexibility that has lead to what the tree now is. A powerfull giant, a true centerpoint of consideration. Or how nature can inspire our own growth.
